Kitchen with L Shaped Island < go back
Location:Derby , Derbyshire
Start Date : 14/04/2014
Program Duration: 5 weeks ( 4 workshop ; 1 onsite )

Rebecca had a pretty clear idea about the look she wanted to achieve. She gave me lots of input, magazine cut outs etc, which is always extremely useful. In order to establish the final design, my role was to help in clarifying priorities, and the practicalities of the layout, such as “would the fridge be better here or there”, that kind of thing.

Main features included a Belfast sink, integrated dishwasher, sliding rustic veg boxes, large larder cupboard, and an L shaped island, which proved to be a great centre piece, with its breakfast bar. The cabinets were finished in Farrow and Ball’s “shaded white ”eggshell, and topped off with chunky beechwood worktops, which I also made, finished in Danish Oil.

As with most kitchen projects, a certain amount of refurbishment of the area was needed, and was done by Rebecca’s builder, and other trades, but once that was done, the installation went very smoothly, in about 3-4 days. I think I had to pop back a  couple of times to finish off, following the plumber, but this is quite usual and no problem. In the end I was pleased to be part of the team on this project, helping Rebecca achieve her stunningly individual kitchen.

"Jeff worked with us to create the kitchen we really wanted, designing and building the units and cupboards we really wanted a price that was affordable. Jeff offered ideas and solutions that helped to get the most from the space we had available. Everyone who walks into our house comments on the kitchen, and I love the fact that no one else will have the same kitchen that we have, and we didn’t have to ‘break the bank’ to get it!"
